Heliconius butterfly breeding

My research mission at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI) in Gamboa, Panama consisted in breeding the species Heliconius hecale and in hybridizing between populations of different coloration, to know more: here.

This project is part of a broader research program in evolutionary genetics on mimicry conducted at the Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle de Paris (more info ici).

For more information on the biology and ecology of these butterflies, follow this link.
